As the Season of Advent begins, we will learn a new Mass Setting, “The Holy Name of Jesus Mass” composed by native Detroiter Dr. Norah Duncan.
This setting was chosen from a short list of four recommendations from an informal survey of several Detroit-area parishes and suggestions from a few parishioners.
Dr. Duncan is the Chair of the Department of Music at Wayne State University. He served as the director of music at the Cathedral for over 26 years and, until recently, at Holy Name Church in Rochester. He dedicated the Mass to the people of parish and their pastor Msgr. John Zenz.
It has been over two years since we learned a new Mass setting. (We introduced the Mass of the Resurrection by Randall DeBruyn in the Fall of 2013.)
