St Joan of Arc’s prolife ministry is organizing a petition drive in support of the Ban Dismemberment Abortion initiative.
After collecting approximately 400,000 registered voters’ signatures, the dismemberment ban will become law with a simple majority vote in the Michigan legislature, which recently approved the bill. The governor will not be able to veto the legislation.
In 2018 in Michigan, there were 1,908 of these dismemberment, or dilation and evacuation, abortions. That’s more than five a day, every day.
We need many volunteers 18 years and older to collect petition signatures after all weekend masses September 14 -15 and 21 -22.
There will be an informational and training meeting on Monday, Sept. 9th at 7 pm as we ready for the first weekend of the petition drive. At the conclusion of that meeting, we'll need some help preparing our petition forms and clipboards, so if you can offer a helping hand - or two ;) - that would be much appreciated.
Below is the link for the sign-up genius. You'll see we have needs after each mass. We'll determine specific door assignments at the time of collection.
To gather signatures, you must be 18 or older. Younger teens and children are encouraged to help by handing out materials, directing signers to the correct collector (by county), visiting with people as they wait to sign petitions, etc.
