As many of you may be aware - there is a petition drive effort underway and many Catholic churches in the AOD are taking part in coordinated signing efforts to ban dismemberment abortion in the state of Michigan. (Please note that this is not the same as the heartbeat bill petition drive - which from what we understand is actually counterproductive to Michigan’s current standing laws on abortion.
We are working on pulling together all our dear Pro-life friends at SJA so we may work together dedicating a few weekends for signature collection.
Our
tentative plan looks like this: (Note that all dates need to be verified.)
Aug 6th in the Sr. Carol Center Emmaus Fellowship Hall - an informational meeting for all, followed by initial sign-up for volunteers for specific masses/doors, instruction on completing petitions and collecting signatures, distribution of petitions for personal use.
Week of Sept 9 - training meeting for new volunteers (to make sure signatures meet all the specified requirements to be considered valid).
Weekends of Sept 14-15 and 21-22, petition drives after masses with several volunteers stationed at all church doors. (We will need many volunteers.)
Weekends Sept 28-October 20, have one or two volunteers at each mass to collect later signatures.
We will set up a sign-up wizard to make sure all doors and masses are adequately covered during our signature blitz weekends.
If you are interested in picking up a petition (or a few) prior to our informational meeting - I’ll leave some at the parish center.
Also - There is already an SJA Lifeline Flocknotes group. If you are not part of it -please sign up to receive future email and mobile communications on this effort - OR send me a return email and include your cell phone number and I’ll add you to the Flocknote list.
