Nearly 300 souls braved sub-zero temperatures and extreme wind chills for over seven weeks to join the Discovering Christ journey. They were warmed with hearty meals and good conversation. After a dinner catered by the Marchiori family, guests prayed, sang and watched a short video. Discussion, Q & A, and faith-filled interaction led to deeper learning about our faith. Over half our group participated in an all-day off-site retreat which included Eucharistic Adoration and an opportunity for Reconciliation. It was obvious that the Holy Spirit was present throughout the entire Discovering Christ experience.
So many people rolled up their sleeves and lent a hand to make Discovering Christ possible. The list would include everyone who participated. Whether it was cleaning up at the end of the evening, setting up before others arrived, fetching chairs, or working behind the scenes, kudos to you all. Without the community effort, this would not have been possible. Thank you all so much.
Special thanks go to Pam, all the table leaders and their assistants for maintaining a welcome atmosphere and keeping discussions moving at the tables. Also thanks, Pam, for organizing the prayer teams for the retreat and subsequent sessions. Our Lord's love and Spirit radiated throughout this entire project.
Thanks, also, to members of the SJA Evangelization Team who stepped up to help with registration, clerical tasks, table and prayer functions, and anything that needed to be done. Sara, Pat, Sherry, Pam, and Margy had been waiting for just this project.
Special thanks to the hospitality team who made the coffee, put out the dessert, made sure no table had an empty water pitcher, washed dishes, cleaned the kitchen, made sure everything was back in its place and so many other tasks. Thank you, Polly, Jane, Joan, Cathy, Carmen, Rosemary, and so many others.
Thank you to Tony, Edie and Bill Marchiori and their staff in giving us hot, tasty meals on all those frigid evenings.
Thank you to Rob for setting up the Screens and AV equipment at both SJA and the retreat site. Without him, Msgr. Mike would not have had time for his regular priestly duties.
Thank you to Diane and Carol at St. Lucy's for all the assistance they provided for the retreat. They made us feel welcome and at home. Thank you, Fr. Commyn for sharing St. Lucy's facilities with us.
A special thank you to our babysitter, Rachel, who also took over maintaining our da- tabase, prepping the table leaders’ supplies, and many other numerous tasks.
Thanks to the maintenance staff, Dave, Steve, Paul, Andrew, and Dennis who made sure tables and chairs were set up, supplies were on hand, doors were unlocked, all was clean and some many other things were done as needed.
Thank you to Mrs. Strasz's eighth grade class for putting on the table cloths and center pieces during their free period.
Thank you to the Religious Education and Parish Center staffs who supported all aspects of the Discovering Christ journey and put up with my meltdowns.
Thank you to Fr. Joe for being my sounding board, for sitting down at tables answering so many questions, for being our Retreat Director and being an irreplaceable part of the team.
And last but not least, thank you to the big guy, the technology guy, the busy guy, who was with us from the start making sure that everything worked, we had everything needed, who showed up for every single session, who zoomed over to the retreat to help out with confessions, who coordinated all parish staffs to make sure Discovering Christ happened. Thank you, Msgr. Mike, for entrusting and supporting me with this endeavor.
Discovering Christ has been a challenging experience. I wish to thank the Lord for sending the Holy Spirit to inspire, strengthen, and bless me throughout this entire journey...and I wish to thank the Holy Spirit for giving my family, friends and coworkers the patience and understanding to put up with me, and to be supportive throughout this special time.
